Pop Star - Spectrum

Pop Star - Spectrum celebrates the interconnection of sky and earth, old and new, humans and our physical world, bridging opposites with bold colors and soft lines that flow between its surroundings of city-landscape and architecture.

Pop Star – Spectrum transforms Hongqiao City Park into a dynamic space where light, geometry, and perception converge, inviting the community to reflect on the interconnectedness of nature, architecture, and human experience. This installation acts as a bridge between opposites—sky and earth, movement and stillness, perception and reality.

At its core, the artwork explores the idea of fragmented unity. Individual components—geometric panels of vibrant transparency—merge into a sculptural form so expansive and intricate that it resists complete comprehension from any single viewpoint. This invites the observer to shift, wander, and engage actively, piecing together the visual puzzle and experiencing the installation in a personal, fluid manner.

The prismatic surfaces serve as lenses for perceiving the world anew, bending light into a spectrum of unexpected colors and reflections. By day, natural sunlight interacts with the sculpture’s materials, creating shifting patterns of shadow and vibrant hues that animate the surrounding landscape. At night, carefully programmed LED projections introduce a choreography of light that transforms the installation into a glowing monument of time and transience.

Through the interplay of natural and artificial light, Pop Star – Spectrum becomes a "clock of light," marking the subtle transitions of time. At sunrise, it symbolizes a moment of awakening and potential. By sunset, it shifts into an elegy of closure and reflection. In this way, the installation connects viewers to the passage of time and the delicate interplay between permanence and impermanence.

This global traveling project tailors each iteration to its specific context, responding to the local environment, architecture, and cultural history. The design reflects a collaborative effort between the artist, international engineers, and lighting experts, ensuring each site-specific adaptation resonates deeply with its surroundings.

In a divided world, the reflective surfaces of Pop Star – Spectrum act as metaphoric bridges, encouraging participants to see themselves as part of a larger whole. The work invites stillness, introspection, and connection, revealing the extraordinary within the familiar.
